Last night Father Wind was really a blowing! We awoke this morning to lots of fallen leaves, a pool full of debris and a little treasure! Huddling on the ground was this adorable and very frightened little Florida gray screech owlet! The poor little guy was so confused (who wouldn't be after his fall?) that he hopped right onto our landscaper Modesto's finger. I guess he thought his finger looked like sturdy tree branch.
While Modesto comforted our little feathered friend we searched high and low for his nest but were unable to find it. It was then that we called Wildlife, Inc. Wildlife, Inc. is located right in our very own Bradenton Beach. Gail who runs the non-profit organization with her husband Ed requested that we bring our rescue in. It seems that Ed was already out on 4 emergency calls and Gail was in the process of feeding 75 various bird rescues by herself. Frank (Carmen's fabulous husband) brought the owlet to Gail. He was added to a cage with 3 other owlet orphans (hopefully, part of his missing family). There he adjusted to the surroundings very quickly. What a wonderful organization! Anna Maria Island is a bird sanctuary and these wonderful people help not only the lost and injured birds but, they care for other injure wildlife. As many know we support many animal rescue organizations and now have added Wildlife Education & Rehabilitation Center Inc. to our list. We will continue to support these fine organizations and perhaps you might too as they are always in need of monetary and volunteer contributions. We urge you all to learn more about them either by checking out there website Wildlife, Inc. Or how about a visit? In the meantime we will be checking on our little guy and hoping that our little owlet grows and starts hooting outside our window again, soon!
