Did you know September 11th is known as "Patriot Day"?
The United States Flag is flown at half staff at the White House and on all government buildings and establishments throughout the world. American homes also proudly fly the flag on this day.
A moment of silence is observed beginning at 8:46 AM. This is the time the first plane struck the North Tower of the World Trade Center on September 11, 2001.
While Patriot Day is not a federal holiday and schools and businesses remain open there are many memorial ceremonies for the victims. It is a national day of rememberance and service.
This is a time that we take to reflect on our great nation and the wonderful people who populate it. It's also a time for us to consider how much we hold dear and have in common.
